Wings and Waves

Wings and Waves isn't your typical water park. This indoor aquatic center sits inside the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum in McMinnville, and yes, you actually get to slide out of a real Boeing 747. The massive airplane houses multiple tube slides that shoot you right out of the aircraft - it's easily one of the most unique water park experiences you'll find anywhere.

The 747 sits dramatically above the pool area, making for some incredible photo opportunities even if you're not brave enough to take the plunge. Inside the climate-controlled facility, you'll find a decent-sized wave pool that generates solid waves for body surfing or just floating around. The water stays at a comfortable temperature year-round, which makes this a perfect rainy day destination in the Pacific Northwest.

Kids love the interactive play structure with smaller slides and water features, while adults can soak in the hot tub after conquering the airplane slides. The park connects directly to the aviation museum, so you can easily spend a full day exploring vintage aircraft before cooling off in the water. This place really shines for families with elementary and middle school kids who get excited about both planes and water slides.

Teens might find it a bit small compared to massive outdoor parks, but the novelty factor keeps most visitors entertained. Since it's indoors and relatively compact, it can get crowded on weekends and holidays. I'd recommend arriving right when they open to claim your spot and avoid the rush.

The facility stays busy during Oregon's wet months when outdoor pools aren't an option. Bring water shoes since the deck areas can get slippery, and don't forget your camera for that money shot coming out of the 747. The combination of aviation history and water fun makes Wings and Waves a legitimate bucket list destination that kids will remember for years.
